our story
From farm
to farmhouse
The current farmhouse and outbuildings were built in 1927 as a working cattle farm. The farmhouse sits in the beautiful countryside on the outskirts of Ribe within the Wadden Sea National Park. The farmhouse has been in the family for over thirty years and two generations.
Our dream of transforming the barn into apartments became a reality when the renovations started in September 2017. The renovation works were completed in April 2018 and we opened our doors to our first guests in May of that year.
Both Alex & I (Janni) really loved living in England; however, we had for some time dreamt of a change in lifestyle which would give us a better balance between work & home life. Our daughter was young and we wanted more quality time as a family. We moved to Denmark just before Christmas in 2017 to begin a new and exciting chapter in our life and that was the beginning of our dreams for Lustrup Farmhouse.
Lustrup Farmhouse is now our family home and the apartments are a unique destination for guests to relax, unwind and enjoy.

Let’s make it environmentally sustainable
From the beginning we know that we wanted to minimise our impact on the environment and make the development as environmentally sustainable as possible by using the natural resources the countryside provided.

Solar Panels & Ground Heating
We therefore retained as much of the original structure of the barn as we could and at the same time incorporated solar panels for electricity and a ground source under floor heating system. We also wanted to encourage our guests to use our recycling facilities.
From start to finish
Renovating an old barn was challenging, but finally we were ready to welcome guests. So exciting! We were inspired by the beautiful farmhouses in England and wanted to include some of Alex’s heritage in the apartments; we therefore integrated some of the ‘farmhouse’ furniture that we had brought from England with items we had found locally. By combining ‘old English’ and Danish influences we wanted to create a unique and cosy environment for our guests to enjoy.
We now welcome guests from all over the world to Lustrup Farmhouse and strive to make this a home away from home where our guests can relax, unwind and truly enjoy quality time with family, friends and loved ones.
